Pulse Session 2022: Role of private rentals in reducing risk of homelessness and mental ill-health
In WA, currently there are no specialist mental health housing services and programs that support people with mental health issues to access and sustain private rental housing and integrate that with other types of support, such as rental subsidies, mental health clinical support and employment support. This is a major gap. In August, WAAMH and the WA Alliance to End Homelessness held a Pulse Session to work being undertaken in Victoria and WA to support people in private rentals to reduce the risk of homelessness and mental ill-health.

WA Mental Health Conference program reveal
The full program can finally be revealed for the fourth Western Australian Mental Health Conference 2022! The program’s four core streams sessions are inspired by the six trauma-informed principles – safety, trust, empowerment, collaboration, choice and respect for diversity – to explore a holistic look at mental health, sharing ideas and learning from both each other and industry leaders. The program sessions promise to deliver thought-provoking, audience discussion, involvement and activities to explore practical and real implications of mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, sector and community settings.

WA Mental Health Award Nominations Open
The time for the great work of Western Australia’s mental health sector to be celebrated is on the horizon, with nominations now open for the WA Mental Health Awards 2022. The Awards aim to recognise and reward the achievements of those who demonstrated excellence, innovation and initiative during the 2021 calendar year in supporting consumers of mental health services, their families, carers and the community in general, while showcasing best practice in WA’s mental health sector to inspire others. The Awards are hosted by the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH), with support from the WA Mental Health Commission.

Donald Punch MLA will officially open Mental Health Week in Western Australia today (Saturday, 9 October) at the Big Swamp Parkland in Bunbury, where the local community and visitors to the area will have an opportunity to ride, walk or jog the 2km track of closed off road around the swamp.
