Panel Discussion
The 7th National Borderline Personality Disorder Conference will host three panel discussions that will explore 'What works for me', 'Diversity of Carer Roles' and 'Working with strength is BPD'.
The aim of each panel discussion is to participate in robust dialogue based on research, clinical practice and lived experience. Be inspired by profound and positive speakers and network with peers and leaders in the field.
'What works for me?'
This panel discussion proudly support by Mental Illness Fellowship WA (MIFWA), explores the journeys of consumers, their struggles, their experiences of the clinical system and their stories of survival and recovery. The narratives will have lessons for everyone who wants to live a fulfilling life. This panel aims to correct damaging myths and stigmas, and highlight the strengths of consumers who identify as having a diagnosis of BPD.
'What worked for us (families and other supporters)'
While there are many similarities in the role of caring and supporting someone with BPD, there are some differences depending on whether you are a parent, a spouse or partner, a child, a friend or another relationship. This panel includes a variety of lived experiences from carers who will share some of their journey and what they have found to be helpful.
'Working with strengths in BPD'
Proudly supported by the Hollywood Private Hospital, this panel will draw on the viewpoints of a clinician, carer and consumer on how working with the strengths of people with BPD, the strengths in their families and the strengths in the treatment teams can positively affect the journey from diagnosis, through treatment and to recovery. Can this collaborative approach reduce the stigma traditionally associated with BPD?
