    Patient Expereince Week WA

    Patient Experience Week is an annual event to celebrate healthcare staff impacting patient experience everyday. Inspired by members of the Institute community, PX Week provides a focused time for organizations to celebrate accomplishments, reenergize efforts and honor the people who impact patient experience everyday. From nurses and physicians, to support staff and executive professionals, to patients, families and communities served, the Institute hopes to bring together healthcare organizations across the globe to observe PX Week.

    Towards Safe and Inclusive Services

    A person’s sexual orientation and gender identity can have a profound impact on their experience of mental illness as a consumer or carer, appropriate treatment options and their service needs. This workshop is designed to assist support workers to understand those diverse needs and improve the service delivery for LGBTIQA* communities.

    National Reconciliation Week

    National Reconciliation Week (NRW) (or "conciliation" as our Elders in Residence refer to it) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

    The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

    Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

    ‘Co-design’ is gaining recognition as a best practice approach to designing mental health services in Australia.  It is a process that involves “designing and delivering services and systems in an equal and reciprocal relationship between professionals, people using the services, their families, and their community” (New Economics Foundation, 2011).

    World Suicide Prevention Day

    The World Health Organization estimates that over 800,000 people die by suicide each year – that’s one person every 40 seconds. In Australia more than 2800 people die each year with latest figures (2016) telling us that 2,866 Australians took their own life. Recent research tells us that hundreds of Australians are impacted by each suicide death. Research also tells us that some 65,000 people attempt suicide each year and hundreds of thousands of people think of suicide. Take a minute to think about the pain and suffering suicide being felt by every single person impacted by suicide.

    Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a serious mental illness characterised by a persistent pattern of varying moods, low self-image, and challenging behaviours. These symptoms often result in impulsive actions and problems in relationships. People with borderline personality disorder may experience intense episodes of anger, depression, and anxiety that can last from a few hours to days.

    Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness Week

    Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Awareness (PANDA) Week was established by PANDA in 2005 to increase awareness and reduce stigma. Since then PANDA has been using the Week to speak out about supporting the mental and emotional wellbeing of expecting and new parents, including the signs to look for and where to go to seek support.
