WAAMH is proud to once again be offering its popular WA Mental Health Week Community Grants Program, with $40,000 worth of funding for WA organisations, community groups and mental health workers.

There are three categories of grants:

  • Events – up to $1,500 for a community event or activity during the month of October.
  • Equipment – up to $1,000 for equipment that will boost a community’s mental health.
  • Education – free registration for one of four WAAMH training courses delivered in October.

Applications for grants close at 5.00pm on Friday 14 August.

The WA Mental Health Week theme this year is Taking control in the face of change.

This theme explores our perception of control and sense of optimism, and the impact these things can have on our own wellbeing, as well as the support we provide to others.

WAAMH CEO, Taryn Harvey, said this theme was particularly relevant during times of global and societal change, when people felt they had limited control.

“There can be many reasons why people feel they do not have control – for example the cost of living, housing shortages, the US-Iran conflict, and the impacts of AI or climate change – and for many people that lack of control over the important things in their lives is very real,” Ms Harvey said.

“So, this WA Mental Health Week, we’re focusing on the tools, habits or supports that are within our control, which have the power to improve our wellbeing and create a more mentally healthy community.”

There are many ways for individuals, organisations and communities to get involved in WA Mental Health Week, from wearing a green awareness ribbon throughout October, to hosting an event or activity.
