Graylands funds to stay in mental health
The Ten Year Mental Health Plan includes specific strategies to divest Graylands, replacing it with contemporary services across the state close to where people live. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fund mental health reform and improve human rights.
The plan also indicates that the proceeds will be used to develop contemporary options and increase community based services.
The Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) calls on the McGowan government to stay with the position of its Shadow Minister Hon. Stephen Dawson when in Opposition that “every dollar from the sale of Graylands is ploughed back into the mental health system”.
WAAMH understands that Health Minister Roger Cook is working with Treasurer Ben Wyatt to develop the business cases needed to keep the funds from the Graylands sale for replacement services.
With state debt at all time high, Cabinet will need evidence of strong community support to back this plan.
