WAAMH Appoints Amanda Hunt as Chief Executive Officer
The Board of the Western Australian Association for Mental Health (WAAMH) is pleased to announce the appointment of Amanda Hunt as Chief Executive Officer.
Amanda joins WAAMH following more than two decades of leadership across the not-for-profit and community services sectors, including extensive experience in mental health, social policy, advocacy, organisational transformation and systems reform. Her career has been defined by a commitment to improving outcomes for Western Australians experiencing hardship, vulnerability and disadvantage, together with a strong focus on collaboration, partnership building and social justice.
As WA’s peak body for community mental health, WAAMH is focused on strengthening sector advocacy, influencing system reform, expanding member value and advancing recovery-oriented, community-led approaches to mental health and wellbeing.
Amanda’s experience and values strongly align with this mandate and WAAMH’s vision of ensuring all people have the resources and support needed for mental wellbeing, recovery and citizenship.
Board Chair Tanya Steinbeck said Amanda stood out as a leader with the strategic capability, sector credibility and collaborative approach needed to lead WAAMH through its next chapter.
“Amanda brings a deep understanding of system reform, advocacy and organisational leadership, together with a strong commitment to amplifying the voices of people with lived and living experience. The Board is confident she will build on WAAMH’s proud history while helping shape the future of community mental health in Western Australia,” Ms Steinbeck said.
The Board also acknowledges the outstanding contribution of WAAMH’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Cassandra MacDonald, who continues to provide steady leadership and continuity during the transition period.
“On behalf of the Board, I would like to sincerely thank Cassie for her professionalism, commitment and leadership during this important period for the organisation. Her stewardship has ensured continuity for our members, staff, stakeholders and partners while the recruitment process was undertaken.”
Amanda will commence with WAAMH on 4 November 2026.
