Just as young people have specific mental health issues and needs, so too do older Australians.
Join WAAMH for this insightful and practical training session which will help participants gain understanding of the mental health needs of older people and respond effectively to clients and loved ones.
Mental health symptoms and best practice responses do vary with age and age related cognitive changes also impact on mental health.
Content covered includes:
- Generational differences in mental health attitudes and experiences
- Common types of mental illness for older people
- Signs, symptoms and causes
- Specialised communication skills
- Care-giver strategies
- Tools and resources
- Where to seek further support.
There are two scholarship places available for consumers or carers who face financial difficulty in attending this course. Scholarship applications close 10 business days prior to a course and the successful applicants will be notified five business days prior to commencement of the event.
The cost will be 10% of the course rate.
