    Training Course

    Understanding the laws and standards governing best practice in mental health service delivery is critical to providing a recovery-oriented, person-centred, strengths-based service to consumers, carers, and their families.

    Target audience: the mental health workforce, consumers, carers and family members

    This introductory half day experiential workshop helps people working in the health sector integrate specific acts and standards into their model of practice as well as guide organisations to improve service delivery.  For consumers, carers, and families, it is an ideal course to learn your rights under the acts and standards that govern mental health in WA.

    Content covered includes:

    • Australian Human Rights Act 1986
    • Mental Health Act WA 2014
    • National Standards for Mental Health Services 2010
    • Dignity of Risk v Duty of Care.

    Content includes a selection of principles and standards.


    There are two scholarship places available for consumers or carers who face financial difficulty in attending this course. Scholarship applications close 10 business days prior to course and the successful applicants will be notified five business days prior to commencement of the event.
