Trauma Informed Practice: 29 + 30 October 2020 - ONLINE

29 - 30 October

09:00AM - 01:00PM

Training Course

Online learning starts here
The trauma informed practice course has been redesigned specifically for an online learning setting.  The course provides a safe space for participants to explore what is meant by trauma, how it impacts those who experience it and what we can do to support people who are affected by trauma.

Target Audience: For staff working across a variety of services including care services, housing, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, disability, first aid, aged care and education, where understanding trauma will positively impact mental health outcomes.

Trauma informed practice is based on the knowledge and understanding of how trauma affects peoples’ lives and their service needs. Given traumatic experiences are common and the effects can be profound, an ability to recognise trauma and work in a trauma informed manner has a significant impact on both the client’s and the worker’s experience.

The trauma informed practice course provides participants with the principles of trauma informed practice to identify trauma and provide the additional support their clients need.

This course will support participants to have:

  • An understanding of what trauma informed practice is
  • Increased knowledge of how trauma impacts people’s lives and how services can support them
  • Practical strategies to support clients with their recovery goals
  • Increased confidence to work in a trauma-informed manner
  • Ability to apply the principles of Trauma Informed Practice

The fully interactive online training session will be facilitated by Wilma Edwards who has extensive knowledge, skills and experience in the mental health field. The course will be delivered over two, 4 hour sessions, on consecutive days and participants will be supported to meaningfully engage with the course content and the other participants.
