Training Course

This course is about supporting people to feel competent and confident in responding to suicide and suicide ideation.

Target Audience: Suitable for staff working across a variety of services including care services, housing, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, disability, first aid, aged care and education. 

Suicide is challenging to understand, and the distress and impact associated with it is far reaching and profound.

This course offers participants an understanding of who might be at risk of suicide and why people might suicide. Importantly, participants are given the relevant communication tools to start the conversation, assess the level of risk and provide intervention.

This course will support participants to:

  • Understand the warning signs and why people may suicide
  • Start the conversation
  • Listen actively and communicate non-judgmentally
  • Assess the immediate risk of suicide by asking the relevant questions
  • Respond appropriately and encourage help seeking
  • Initiate and action an emergency response as needed
  • Seek opportunities to debrief and seek support when required


There are two scholarship places available for consumers or carers who face financial difficulty in attending this course. Scholarship applications close 10 business days prior to course and the successful applicants will be notified five business days prior to commencement of the event.
